I. Project Introduction

1. What Is Morpho?
Morpho is a decentralized protocol that enables overcollateralized lending and borrowing of crypto assets (ERC20 and ERC4626 tokens) on the Ethereum Virtual Machine. It serves as a simple lending primitive layer, allowing for the creation of immutable and efficient lending markets in a permissionless manner.


2. How Does Morpho Work?
Morpho Markets V1 is a primitive lending pool that pairs a collateral asset with a loan asset. Each market is independent (meaning risk is contained within each individual market), immutable (cannot be altered after deployment), and will persist as long as the blockchain it is deployed on remains live.
Morpho Vault V1 is a protocol for permissionless lending vaults built on top of the Morpho Markets V1.
Vault V2 is a protocol for permissionless lending vaults built upon the Morpho Markets V1, Morpho Vaults V1, and others. Vault V2 offers richer advanced risk management options, role-based governance mechanism upgrades, and customizable access controls to meet institutional compliance requirements.


3. Who Founded Morpho?
Morpho Protocol was founded in 2021 and is headquartered in France, operating under the name Morph Lab. The team members are predominantly from France, with the founders being relatively young; during the 2022 fundraising round, the CEO was still an undergraduate student.

In August 2024, Morpho completed a $50 million funding round led by Ribbit Capital, with participation from a16z crypto, Coinbase Ventures, Variant, Pantera, Brevan Howard, BlockTower, Kraken Ventures, Hack VC, IOSG, Rockaway, L1D, Semantic, Mirana, Cherry, Fenbushi, LeadBlock, Bitpanda Ventures, and Robot Ventures.

5. Timeline of Key Milestones
In June 2024, Morpho announced its launch on Base, enabling yield generation and lending through MetaMorpho Vault, and supporting development on the Morpho Stack.
In November 2024, the MORPHO token was officially launched.
In April 2025, Morpho introduced Morpho Prime, a new vertical product catering to curators and advanced users.
In September 2025, Morpho released Vaults V2, which went live on Ethereum.
